The Coalitional Nash Bargaining Solution∗
نویسنده
چکیده
The coalitional Nash bargaining solution is defined to be the core allocation for which the Nash product is maximal. We consider a non-cooperative model in which one team may form. The grand team, consisting of all players, generates the largest surplus. But a smaller team may form. We show that as players get more patient if an efficient and stationary equilibrium exists, it must deliver payoffs that correspond to the coalitional Nash bargaining solution. We also characterize when an efficient and stationary equilibrium exists. We find that existence requires conditions that go beyond the non-emptyness of the core.

Axiomatic approaches to coalitional bargaining
The simplest bargaining situation is that of two persons who have to agree on the choice of an outcome from a given set offeasible outcomes; in case no agreement is reached, a specified disagreement outcome results. This two-personpure bargaining problem has been extensively analyzed, starting with Nash (1950). When there are more than two participants, the n-person straightforward generalizati...
متن کاملValuations and Dynamics of Negotiations
This paper analyzes three-party negotiations in the presence of externalities, deriving a close form solution for the stationary subgame perfect Nash equilibrium of a standard non-cooperative bargaining model. Players’ values are monotonically increasing (or decreasing) in the amount of negative (or positive) externalities that they impose on others. Moreover, players’ values are continuous and...
متن کاملSingle NTU-value solutions¤
We propose a variation of the non-cooperative bargaining model for n-person games in coalitional form, introduced in Hart and Mas-Colell (1996). This strategic game implements, in the limit, a new NTU-value for the class of monotonic games. This value coincides with the Consistent NTU-value (Maschler and Owen,1989) for hyperplane games, and with the Shapley value for TU games (Shapley, 1953). T...
متن کاملBeyond Nash Bargaining Theory: The Nash Set*
We extend Nash's bargaining theory to non-convex and coalitional problems. This paper investigates the implications of Nash-like axioms for bilateral problems and the properties of consistency and converse consistency over multilateral settings. The result is a characterization of the Nash set of NTU games, defined as the solution concept where each pair of players is splitting the gains from t...

This paper proposes a new solution concept to three-player coalitional bargaining problems where the underlying economic opportunities are described by a partition function. This classic bargaining problem is modeled as a dynamic non-cooperative game in which players make conditional or unconditional o¤ers, and coalitions continue to negotiate as long as there are gains from trade. The theory y...
